How do I get started as a Wiccan?

My most important question about Wicca how do you get started and how much work do you need to put into being a wiccan?

The best way to get started as a Wiccan is to do all the research that you can and then find a local Wiccan who is willing to act as a teacher or guide.

Start by researching Wicca on the web and through respectable books. You might look for things published by Llewellyn Books. They are a well-respected publisher of Wiccan materials and print materials for beginners and solo practitioners. I would advise that after you have familiarized yourself with the concepts first and know the right questions to ask when you start looking for a mentor.

As a word of caution, make certain that you are looking at Wiccan sites, not those that speak of “magic” or “witchcraft” because often these terms are used by people who either don’t know anything about the practice of Wicca or who are misusing the religion for their own evil intentions. All true Wiccans will promote the Wiccan Rede and the theory of “Harm None”. If the site or book you are using for research promotes harming someone else or forcing your will up on them, look elsewhere.

Familiarize yourself with the Wiccan Rede, starting with the concept of “So Long As It Harm None, Do What Thou Wilt.” Then, as you look for a teacher, make sure that they are willing to teach you about the religious aspects of Wicca and that they ascribe to the Rede.

After that, it is up to you to find a teacher who can help you with better instruction and introduce you to the Faith itself.

Once you have a teacher, the amount of work you decide to put into your new Faith is up to you.  The practice of Wicca is deeply personal and you can devote as much or as little time to it as you wish.  Like any relgion, you choose how devoted you are.

Most of the Wiccans I know spend a short period of time, an hour or less, every day at their altars and then spend additional time for rituals and high holidays. Some have weekly meetings with their covens; Others meet less frequently.

My non-verbal son with autism was abused in his group home. Is there a protection spell for him? How can I speed up justice in the court system?
