how do you do the ritual to become a wiccan?
There is no one ritual to become a Wiccan. Individual covens may have rituals that they conduct to bring new members into their covens, but as a faith, Wicca does not have an “introductory” ritual.
If you are wanting to begin studying Wicca and join the faith, you should first do some research into the belief system and decide why you are wanting to become Wiccan. Check your local book store for information regarding the history and tenets of Wicca, concentrating on the Wiccan Rede. The Rede is a series of simple tenets, or beliefs, that are common to all Wiccans. The first tenet and most important one is “It Harm None, Do What Thou Wilt.”
After you have researched the Rede and are comfortable with the core beliefs, you should look for local practitioners with whom you share common interests. You may discover that most covens will want you to spend some time with them, getting to know them and see if you fit in with their group. Many will ask for a year-long commitment to show that you are really interested in the Faith. Unfortunately, many people take a passing interest in Wicca and treat it as a trendy pasttime instead of a matter of religion. As you can imagine, people who believe are often offended by the looky-loos just in it for a quick thrill.
Every coven is very personalized, as is the Wiccan faith, so you may have to spend some time looking around for a coven that shares your outlook. Wicca and paganism are not as structured as some religions and therefore people can adapt their rituals and practices to their own belief systems. For example, many people who practice Wicca have deep ties to nature and incorporate that into their rituals. Others, who perhaps came to Wicca from one of the Christian faiths, may have a more ritualistic approach to the practice of the Faith.
