Voodoo Magick works by gently coaxing the Universe to align itself with our energies similar to Wicca Magick or Vedic Magick. Black magic is magick with the mistaken intentions as these energies will complete the cycle and return to the one who initiated it.
There is no concept of the Devil or Satan in Voodoo. This concept was used by the missionaries when African natives had to be kidnapped and sold to slavery. The negation of their basic human dignity helped the Europeans ease their conscience.
As the followers moved from Africa to the other parts of the world, Voodoo underwent a metamorphosis too. Whereas Voodoo required spiritual leaders who were adept in the art of connecting to the Loa for each occasion, Hoodoo is performed by regular people wishing for changes in their life by utilizing their own spiritual energy.
The Africans who settled in New Orleans use Voodoo as well as Hoodoo traditions and rituals. The dolls in these rituals may be replaced by candles or figurines. Anointing with sacred oils while chanting the spell is more effective. Here is one such ritual for protection from harm:
Caraway seeds – 1 teaspoon (protection from illness)
Flax seeds – 1 teaspoon (mental protection)
Oregano – 1 teaspoon ( protection from lawsuits)
Black pepper – 1 teaspoon (general protection)
Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon (keep evil away from the home)
Cloves – 1 teaspoon (attract luck and love)
Salt – half cup.
Dried cayenne chilli pepper – 3
Mix together all of the above and tie in in a thin, soft cloth. Go outdoors where you can burn charcoal in the open. First hold the cloth bag in your hand and take it around your head in a circle three times chanting:
Through air, I charge you!
Through fire, I cleanse you!
Protect me from harm forever
By Moon and Sun my will be done.”
Then meditate for some time by visualizing yourself in a cocoon that is made of strong material through which evil cannot penetrate. Then throw the bag on top of the charcoal. Stay with it until the smoke clears and the entire contents of the bag is charred. You may bury the charcoal in your yard.
